कुंभ मेला: भारत की प्राचीन संपन्न संस्कृति
Kumbh Mela: An ancient rich culture of India

There
is no need to ask any Indian how famous the Kumbh Mela is, even it is
meaningless to ask any Hindu what is the significance of Kumbh Mela, because he
wishes to take a bath in holy river in Kumbh mela once in his life for
sin-salvation. Yes, it can definitely be asked whether people are willing to
visit the city of Kumbh in today's time. Since I am from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand,
I have a strong desire that I should also go to the Kumbh Mela this time,
although I did not go to Haridwar in 2010 Kumbh and take the virtue of Ganga
baths in Rishikesh because at that time Kumbh Snan Yoga Yoga Rishikesh Was made
up to.
At this time, Mahakumbh is being organized again in 2022 in Haridwar and
after these 12 years, there is a strong desire once again to go to Haridwar
this time to enjoy the Kumbh Mela and experience its beauty and color. I can,
but once again the outbreak of the epidemic is pushing my courage back but not
my curiosity. That is why today's article is dedicated to the Kumbh Mela.
The Kumbh Mela is a symbol of the Hindu religion's
enthusiasm. It is the most ancient and huge religious gathering ceremony known
all over the world. In which not only the country but also people from abroad
are coming. The fame of the Kumbh Mela can be gauged from the fact that today
in the newspaper of 26 March 2021, a person 'Ben Baba' came to Kumbh on foot
from Switzerland, he was traveling for the last five years to reach the fair.
Meaning of Kumbh Mela
Kumbh literally means Kalash, pitcher, water jug, which is a vessel of water
and which we have been referring to since ancient times as Amrit (Holi water)
Kalash. The word Mela is derived from Sanskrit which means union, gathering,
solidarity, community celebration. That is why we can consider Kumbh Mela to be
a community meeting or gathering for cultural immortality. Kumbh Mela always
takes place on the banks of the river, such as on the banks of the Ganges River
in Haridwar, at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati in Prayag,
on the banks of the Godavari River in Nashik, and the Shipra River in Ujjain.
Is, which occurs in these places at an interval of every twelve years.
The tradition of Kumbh Mela
The
definite description or authenticated information of Kumbh Mela has not been
mentioned in many ancient texts, but yes, a Chinese scholar and traveler Hiuen
Tsang had taken a bath in the Kumbh held at Prayag during the reign of Emperor
Harshavardhana, it is definitely mentioned. However, historians believe that
even before this, river fairs had been held. Hence the history of the Kumbh
Mela is very ancient, dating back to 850 years.
Mythological
belief
Some
ancient mythology is also prevalent with the fair which states that when 14
gems came out at the time of ocean churning, one of those gems was Amrit Kalash
which god Indra's son Jayant started to take with him to the gods so that the
Asuras (demons) got the nectar. Don't be Seeing this, the demon Guru
Shukracharya also drove the Asuras after Jayant to get the nectar Kalash and to
get the same nectar, the asuras and the gods continued to battle for 12 days.
In the same snoop, drops of nectar spilled into the earth in four places, which
are Prayag, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain respectively. That is why the Kumbh
Mela started being organized in these places.
Lord Vishnu got the Mohini avatar to make the gods drink nectar due to 12
days of continuous fighting between the gods and asuras for the Amrit Kalash.
It is said that the 12 days of the gods are the same as the 12 years on earth.
That is why there are 12 Kumbh, 4 on earth, and 8 on Dev Lok and only after
every 12 years a full Kumbh is organized in one place. Well, Kumbh takes place
every four years at these four places, due to this, it takes 12 years for the
Maha Kumbh to come to one place.
Haridwar
- Prayag - Ujjain - Nashik
Religious
affiliation
It is also believed that our religious guru Adishankaracharya started
organizing the Kumbh Mela at these four places so that Hinduism can be
organized and exchange religious culture, people from north to south, south to
east, and west. Stay connected with People from all walks of life meet and
discuss religion. Keep Hinduism moving forward.
Astronomical importance
Kumbh Mela has special significance in astrology. this is not only a
religious convention of Hindus, but it is also a calculation of the special
positions of stars, and planets.
Moon,
Sun, Brahaspati, and Saturn played a very important role to protect the Amrit
Kalash. The Moon had saved the Sun from erupting due to the rotation of the
Ghats, as well as the Saturn protected the nectar Kalash from the fear of
Devendra while Brahaspati abducted the Kalash. Therefore, it is for this reason
that the effect of these zodiac signs is also important. According to
astronomical calculations, the Kumbh Snan begins with Makar Sankranti, and with
this Kumbh Snan Yoga, the effect of the defects of zodiac signs like Saturn,
Sun, Jupiter also decreases.
The early Kumbh Mela and today's Kumbh Mela
Kumbh is fair but it is a pilgrimage fair and Haridwar is a pilgrimage
city anyway, people come here and take bath in the Ganges and consider
themselves blessed. I am also one of those who have bathing in Har Ki Paidi,
yes, it is different than Kumbh is not bathed, yet at this place, it always
looks fair due to the rush of pilgrims.
Haridwar has a special place in itself and due to this Kumbh Mela, the
importance of this place increases even more. In the first mention, the
importance of bathing has been mentioned only for everyone's feet, that is why
earlier Kumbh Snan used to take place at a certain place, but in this Kumbh
Mela, the significance of Kumbh Snan has reached Devprayag. According to
astrologer calculations, the bathing area has increased, but the reason for
this is mainly not to gather crowds at one place, it may also be the reason
that perhaps the circumference of the Kumbh area has also been increased.
Uttarakhand is called Devbhoomi anyway and the Char Dham yatra here is a
huge pilgrimage in itself. Along with Badri Kedar, pilgrims to Gangotri
Yamnotri Dham come from every corner of the country.
Talking about the earlier environment, going to Kumbh Mela was like
taking a pilgrimage in your life. And the pilgrims were also only old. The last
wish of his life was to attain salvation by doing pilgrimage and bathing in
Kumbh Mela was his ultimate goal.
Today traveling has become very accessible, people now reach in few hours and
also complete the journey. Not only means of transport, but now there are also
very good options for eating, drinking, and living, so now traveler numbers
have also increased a lot. Its veracity is also proved by this that in 2019,
about 1.10 crore people took a dip at the confluence on one day in the Kumbh
Mela in Prayagraj.
At first, travelers used to go on a pilgrimage on foot because at that
time there were not so many travel resources available. People used to go out
on their pilgrimage after paying their last goodbye to their family members
because at that time it was not sure whether they would reach their home safely
after completing the pilgrimage.
People used to reach for the Kumbh Mela by walking for miles, traveling
on the difficult path, but how many of these pilgrims were traveling for their
last journey, sometimes someone was hungry and thirsty, and they lost their way
on the way. Used to give, some would become morsels of wild animals on the way
or some wandered and lost his way.
There were groups of sadhus, saints, vairagis, akhadas in the Kumbh
Mela, as well as camps of Raja Maharajas. At the Kumbh Mela, the kings were
often angry with each other for the first bath, and among them, many times the poor
pilgrims died under the elephants of the kings the horses.
In some places, passengers got to be killed by a thief dacoit. Even the sadhus
of the Akharas used to compete among the Nagas and how many travelers were
killed in this stampede at the fair. You may have heard this type of incident
in your recent fairs too.
In today's times, as the infection of the corona epidemic has spread,
sometimes there was also an epidemic like cholera and plague because the fair
used to bring travelers of every background from every end, and the Kumbh fair
at that time. There was no control of any kind towards it, in such a situation,
some people would get death due to the epidemic.
That is why the Kumbh fair at that time was not only for 'Papamukti' but
also for death, then only those who were old thought that if death happens in
Tirath time, then salvation will be attained, hence Kumbh bath for salvation in
the last days of life. I used to come
That is why in the earlier Kumbh fair, there were only saints and old men. At
that time, there were discussions on religion, seminars of knowledge,
discourses, and recitations of saints, (dance art, not kirtan according to
today) in Kumbh Mela, people from far and wide came to listen to them and with
limited people and limited resources Kumbh Mela used to be done but today, what
is old, adult, even young and children reach the Kumbh Mela, because now it is
not just a religious frenzy, but of juggling, art, cultural curiosity,
exhibition and community entertainment. The arena has also become a place,
hence the Kumbh Mela has become a center of pilgrimage along with adventure.
Well! Whatever be the reason, but this grandeur of Kumbh fair is giving
employment to many people along with sin, virtue, charity, religion, salvation,
and directly and indirectly, due to the Kumbh Mela, many people get a livelihood
too. Is it more important than just filling one's stomach,
As much as I am reading, thinking, writing, the Kumbh fair is attracting
me. It seems that there is still a lot left, that is why I want to go to the
Kumbh Mela this time also, I want to see the ardent babas of the akharas, I
want to get swept away from my ancient Kumbh culture, in the innumerable chants
from morning It dissolves in the winds of Kumbh Fair, I want to take a bath in
the continuous stream of the Ganges, where the Sun and the planets together
make the water more medicinal and want to identify the faces of my country that
I have never met because I have never been there. Did not go Really, how good
is it to meet people from all over the country in one place and spread their
culture and religion in this way.
This is a prayer to God that the epidemic infection should not be more in
this Kumbh Mela and soon we will be free from the corona epidemic. This request
is from everyone to come to Kumbh Mela to recognize the culture of Hinduism and
also take advantage of it but with caution.
